Fraud awareness website Scamwatch reports almost a hundred and twenty per cent (120%) increase in investment losses associated with scams since early two thousand and twenty (2020) and two thousand and twenty-one 2021 (2021).

Reports during this period found that the over sixty-five’s (65’s) have lost the most money to financial scams so far in two thousand and twenty-one (2021), amounting to losses of up to twenty million dollars according to more than five hundred reports received this year.

Researchers from the University of New South Wales and the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute have reported that accommodation such as public housing is key to reducing reoffending rates amongst inmates post-release.

Researcher Chris Martin from UNSW says that social housing is a powerful break in the vicious cycle of homelessness and imprisonment.

The report found that among over six hundred prisoners given public housing, NSW police incidents dropped eight point nine per cent (8.9%) per year.

In International News…

Talks have resumed on a worldwide environmental plan by UN negotiators to protect natural land as part of the proposed “Global Biodiversity Framework”.

A draft for the Global Biodiversity Framework will aim to conserve at least thirty per cent (30%) of the world’s land and oceans by focusing on eliminating plastic waste and decreasing the use of pesticides by two thirds by two thousand and thirty (2030).

A UN biodiversity summit in China this October will take place, although face-to-face meetings will be delayed until April two-thousand and twenty-two (2022).
