Then how do feminist-identifying people justify the adage “If you’re not a feminist, you’re a sexist”?

I think this is a mean-spirited false equivalency: Not identifying yourself as a feminist means you are by default a sexist person. Surely this rhetoric just forces people to identify as feminists to avoid social ostracization and ridicule — not so much because they’re beliefs aligned with feminism.
